Clover:

Kind, protective, Loyal, Caring.

She is the mare who, along with Boxer, becomes a loyal and devoted believer in the Revolution. After the executions on the farm, Clover assumes a motherly position, to which the other animals retreat for comfort and understanding. She is kind, protective, loyal and caring. She is the only character whose thoughts we are permitted to see. By the end of the novel she is exhausted but is still working hard. She is viewed as kind and protective, an example of this is shown at the start when she shelters her ducklings. She is on the whole a loyal disciple of the Animalist Revolution. Clover’s limited intelligence and her reluctance to confront her doubts prevent her from rebelling the pig’s rule even though she sees the horrors of the farm. She continuously checks the commandments as a result of her doubts but never acts upon them. However, she does remain loyal to Napoleon proving the point that the pigs’ domination of the farm is a result of the animals’ naivety, loyalty and lack of intelligence. The last scene is viewed through her eyes and we along with the animals witness the changing faces form man to pig and the realisation that there is no difference between them. The fact that an uncomprehending member of the farm witnesses it makes the scene more effective.
